Everyone has their favorite band that they will always listen to no matter what. At least I do. Since I was in 7th grade,that band for me is Deftones. I feel as if since 1997, there has been a song from them that has totally described what I was going through or feeling at the time. For example, when White Pony came out, which was 2000, I was in the middle of transferring high schools. I absolutely hated the school that I was at because it was tiny and just plain shitty. So, that's when the bright idea of going to Poteet came about. Deftones's White Pony album really gave me some confidence going into a bigger high school and meeting new friends, who to this day, I remain friends with. White Pony was pretty much the soundtrack for me that year.(so was Modest Mouse)
Deftones has had a tragedy happen in their band 5 months back. Chi Cheng their bassist was in a bad car accident and is in a coma. He's been through so much surgery to repair massive head trauma but still remains in a coma. Chi continues to fight the coma, opening his eyes, saying only one word, which are all very good signs. So there is hope.
Deftones are supposedly coming out with a new album this fall called "Eros". Without Chi, they played their first show this past Sunday in California and they have said that "its what Chi would have wanted". His family put together this website http://oneloveforchi.com/
